In kindergarten, I had a mortal enemy. In 7th grade, my best friend dated him and I dated his best friend–now we had to get along, but we did it in that fun “I still kind of hate you” way.
All through junior high and high school, he’s the cool guy, introduced us to punk music, was a skateboarder and a professional wake-boarder with a cool dad who let him have awesome parties on their lake.
After high school, he played drums in a crusty little punk band, made up of all dudes I went to school with, in downtown dive bars. I used to go all the time because I wanted to sleep with the bass player who didn’t know my name in high school.
This kid is now the keyboard player in the band Awol Nation.
Younger him would kick his own ass–they’re terrible.
