True Story #4

At 13, I had pretty extensive back surgery to correct scoliosis. The scar goes from right below my shoulder blades to right above my ass crack and used to look a lot gnarlier than it does now. But, as a super skinny teen growing up in Florida, I wore short shirts and didn’t care who saw me in a bathing suit at the water parks we lived at in the summer.

My best friend during these years was very conscious of the looks I received and would always tell me when people were staring, which kinda pissed me off. We’re adults now and haven’t spoken in years, but through the internet, I know she has a daughter who was born without femurs.
